All change

It’s all change for our Beaver and Cub sections, the group is very pleased to introduce and welcome three new leaders- it’s a hat trick!

As I’m sure you’re all aware our Cub Leaders Karen and Sarah

Williams left the group and the area last July after many years service.  Finding someone to replace the sisters would not be an easy task, however, we clocked our eyes on a new Akela and so far she’s been doing a great job! Kate Millard, 23 works as a  florist over in Staffordshire, well that’s when she’s not busy thinking up new challenges for our Cub Scouts!

Kate Millard– Akela

We couldn’t leave Kate to tackle the Cubs alone so alongside her is Jonathan Clarke, 22 , who has taken on the role of Assistant Cub Leader. Jon works as Plan Drawer for West Midlands Police.

Kate & Jon both worked their way through the 20th Walsall Scout troop and progressed there way up to what was then known as Beacon Ventures- they both achieved their Queen Scout Award which is the highest award you can achieve in Scouting.

Kate and Jon are injecting a new lease of life into the pack, Kate explains “It’s not easy replacing someone who has been in the job a long time, especially as it takes the Cubs a while to get to know and trust you, we had a great Autumn term and we’re all getting along really well which is brilliant”.

Jon Clarke—Assistant Cub Leader

The other new addition to the group is our Beaver Leader Hannah Brown, although Hannah has been around for nearly a year, she wasn’t able to take over the Colony   permanently until September last year, as she was       completing her final year at Coventry University.

Hannah, 23, and a newly qualified Occupational

Therapist joined the 20th Walsall Scout Group when she was 12 years old and progressed her way into Beacon Ventures.  Hannah is also another member that achieved the Queen Scout Award. Hannah proudly told 20/20 Vision, ‘It’s been hard work taking over but the results have been amazing, in October the colony started up its first ever waiting list!  The colony is thriving and I’m enjoying every minute of it”.

The Medal of Merit has been awarded by the Chief Scout to our very own GSL     Graham Smith and also to June Aubrook, Former Cub leader, present ADC Cubs and long-time member of the 20th.

‘In recognition of outstanding service’

A great achievement well done!

Congratulations
