Nigel Drinkwater the groups chairman updates us… Supporting group leaders and members and financing their activities and outings. The ‘PSG’ is a small group of enthusiastic Parents and helpers who meet once in while over some light refreshment to manage group spending, organise fundraising and social events and ensure the groups equipment is kept safe, up to date and ready for use when needed. We also publish the group newsletter, maintain the minibus and go to loads of parties, discos’, skittles nights’, bar b q’s, bonfires etc. etc. ….and we could always do with more help… Come along and Join us and help your child's enjoyment in the group and have some fun as well.
The PSG does of course include the Group Executive Committee, the grand title for the happy band of folk including the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, and the formal record keeping side of things, but that’s enough of that…...as we are not that typecast bunch of anoraks at all. Now where did I put my glass of mineral water?….. We are working hard on the construction of a new ‘Youth Activity Centre’, some would call a hut, others a HQ, and whilst we have a long way to go yet to get the finance together for the building, we have made great progress, especially over the last year. The Architects initial designs are done, the old barn has been demolished and most important of all the land has been levelled ready for the building work to start. That sounds like its all stop until the money rolls in, not so; there are loads of formalities to sort and the early design details to get approval on, but 2006 will see the footings being cast and landscaping being progressed. Planning permission was granted in 2001 and therefore expires next year, so it is important that we make a meaningful start, for example lay the foundations by the end of May, so that we can continue as planned. The Y.A.C. will always be known as ‘The Barn’, why ? Well that will have to be a story for another issue, suffice to say it is a well chronicled yarn... 2006 is the 20th’s 50th Anniversary, so watch out for special events or activity themes to mark the occasion, there may even be a party or two, watch this space.
I can’t finish an article like this, (rare) without saying a huge thank you to all of the team and to everyone who helped make Bonfire 2005 such an enormous success, did we tell you we made over £6000 even after chucking £1600 quid's worth of fireworks into orbit… Well done to you all—beat that in 2006. Nigel Drinkwater, (Outgoing) Chairman. |

Annabel Smith updates us on the unit’s progress… Beacon Explorers were left out on a bit of a limb during the autumn as I had to go into hospital to have my tonsils removed- which was very painful indeed! Even though our meetings have been a bit disjointed we have still managed to get stuck in and involved in lots of different activities and all the lads are literally seconds away from achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze and Chief Scout Award Platinum. The lads have been busy editing the camp video, and have been to the Peak District for their winter weekend. 2006 is set to be a busy one with exams to juggle and lots of activities such as scuba diving, parascending and the Chase Walk… |
