20th Walsall Scout Groups 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Scouting started in 1907, with an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in the UK for 20 boys from a wide variety of social backgrounds. Today, Scouting is a million times bigger than when it first started. It involves girls and boys, men and women from every race, religion and culture, and nearly every country in the world. In 2007, Scouting celebrates its worldwide Centenary.  However before we even begin to think about that we have our own Anniversary to celebrate in 2006.  In September of this year the 20th Walsall (St Margaret’s) Scouts will be 50 years old. We intend to mark this occasion with a big bang by involving as many of our present and past members as we can.  Plans are afoot as I write but it is our intention to hold a Super Family Camp for all current Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers at Woodlands Camp in Aldridge.  The group has booked the entire site exclusively for our use with all its facilities for the weekend of 29 September to

1 October.

If you have attended our Family Camps before then you will know a little of what to expect but think bigger much bigger because this Super Family Camp will be 100 times bigger. Woodlands Camp is a fantastic campsite located just on our doorstep and are experts in running activity weekends. For those of us not keen on camping don’t be put off because Woodlands is at the posh end of scout campsites and we have some indoor accommodation available to fight over!! Throughout the camp we will have our own designated Woodlands Camp Instructors leading us in our activities ,which will include:

Canoeing, archery, climbing, abseiling, assault Course (with zip wire), campfire and BBQ

We would like every single one of our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and parents to attend this event as the 50th Years Anniversary is about celebrating together.

So please put this date in your diary, on your family wall planners, on the fridge just anywhere you can see it because this will be one event you can’t miss….
