Welcome to Beacon Explorer Unit

Explorer Scouts is one of the new sections created as part of the Scout Associations program review. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family and are made up of young people, aged between 14 and 18 years old.

Beacon Explorers is based at St Margaret's School, in Great Barr, Birmingham, and welcomes those new to, or already in Scouting. Explorer Scouts is the new name for Venture Scouts, we have kept the same action packed programme as Beacon Ventures used to have but with some new and improved activities! Check out our calendar for more details.

There are many types of Explorer Scout Units; some may be linked to your local Scout Group like our unit is, or you may have a few units based around the district that are district led.

So, What activities do Explorer scouts do?

Anything from abseiling, surfing, scuba diving, camping, hiking, pony trekking, quad biking, gorge walking/ghyl scrambling, sea kayaking, cycling, orienteering challenges & competitions, canoeing, climbing and rafting.....

(We're always trying to add to the list as well!)
