About Us

Adventure is always key at the 20th Walsall scouts and that why we have thriving sections full of young people. We have a great and varied programme provided by our team of amazing volunteer leaders and they create a safe space for young people to be themselves, learn, have fun and form life long friends.

Our history

Our group has been scouting at St Margaret’s, Great Barr for over 75 years. For many years our meeting place was at St Margaret’s CofE School, based on the Birmingham Road. Over 20 years ago the late Vicar Joseph Reaney of St Margaret’s Parish Church, gave the 20th Walsall the use of some out-buildings on the site of the Old Vicarage on Chapel Lane and gave us access to a large piece of land to run activities and scout craft.

About Us

Building the Hub

In 2003, the scout group was able to negotiate a lease from the Diocese for the land, which could not have been achieved without the help and support of the late Vicar Joseph Reaney.

After much work by the group’s volunteers, we were granted outline planning permission and through sheer determination and successful fundraising of over £140,000 through events and donations collected over some 20 years, the 20th Walsall Scout Group were able to fund the laying of foundations for the building in November 2007.

In July 2009 the 20th Walsall Scout Group was successful in obtaining a Community Building Grant of £327,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and the Great Barr Community Hub was born!
